The narrator of the story suffering from mental disease. He dose not like the eyes of the old man as they are like vultures. To get rid of them he dicades to murder him though the old mam is innocent and he loves the narrator very much. He thinks the ticking sound of the watch as old man' heart beat.He buries the dead body of old man under the floor but forgets to remove wrist watch from his hand.Police come for investigation .First they are fooled by the narrator.They believe upon him.Later,the narrator mistaken the sound of watch as the heart beat of the old man. Due to his mental disease.He can not hide his crime and confesses his crime as a murderer of the oldman.
