The title of the story is very much suitable and meaningful.the meaning of the title is the heart which reveals the secret of hidden truth .The narrator is over sensitive to hearing.He mistakes the sound of the old man's watch for the old man's heart beating.After killing the oldman,the narrator hides the under the wooden floor.The police officers come for investigations but they find nothing suddenly,the narrator hears the beating of the oldman's heart but in real it is the sound of the watch which is in the oldman's wrist.In his mad sense,he thinks that the policemen know the truth and they are making fun of him.
